Value of sealed 1982 Cases?

Post by Travelowl » Fri Jan 01, 2021 7:32 pm

Please note, I will post to the appropriate place when/if I decide to sell any of these. This is not a “for sale” ad in disguise.

Today I helped a family clean out an old Vermont farmhouse. Lo and behold, the last place in the house that we went, waaaay down deep in the root cellar, I found three pristine sealed cases of MREs! All are lot 64, dated 6/82.

What are these worth? Keep as they are or open one just out of sheer curiosity?

Personally I would crack one open, The way i try to reason with myself is by having "one to eat, and one to keep"
Check out my ORP menu spreadsheet: https://bit.ly/2NqUFRX | I have: | British 24HR Box Rations | French RCIRs | Type I EPA |Danish Rations

FWIW, about a year ago, I purchased a case of 1984 MREs for $40 from someone directly. Around that same time, I purchased a case of 1982 MREs from an Army Surplus store for $70. So I'd say anywhere from $50-70 per case.

Thank you very much!

The poorest-looking case has a single band. The others have two. Here’s the single band one and one of the others, sitting on the wife’s car:
