Have you tried these yet? Anything special that sets them above all the other types of power bars out there?

Energy Bars

Post by jfko6 » Sat Oct 27, 2007 11:12 pm

The above link was sent to me by a soldier. I assumed he probably got them in the field maybe in one of the various field rations. But I've not tried the NuGo's.

What I did get was a box of ClifBar's and tried those. Specifically the chocolate chip peanut crunch variety.

I can report that those bars are very rich and very dense in vitamins and minerals. But for those that tried them and those that haven't they don't replace a meal. The reason, I've discovered is that you fell full for a time but sensed my body needing some animal protein for long term energy i.e. meat.

All in all the NuGo and Clif Bar have their uses.

MRE & It's Side Effects
There's been much advertising about the MRE and its associated gastro-intestinal side effects.

This is true. Experienced it.

The best tried and true advise is to increase your intake of water up to 1 liter or more for every MRE.

The fruit beverage mixes can be beneficial to help boost energy and have some electrolyte replacement but only if your body needs it. In other words, fresh water and a little extra salt on the food can help maintain body home-stasis. But too much salt can also be bad.

It's also a good idea to have fresh fruit with you. Any citrus fruit. But an orange after an MRE can help keep things loose and moving.
