New guy checking in -

Post by Big Galloot » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:48 pm

A couple of weeks ago I was blissfully unaware of MREs, I knew that they existed but didn't care.

Then I ran across some for sale in a little convenience store near High Springs, Florida. The guy is selling them for $ 20.00/ case of 12. Knowing as little as I did about them, I still figured that $ 1.66 per meal for camping and/or hurricane food was too attractive to pass up so I bought a couple of cases.

Now that I had them, I wanted to learn more about them and see if I had gotten my moneys worth. Now I am hooked on the whole MRE concept. I think it's the pack rat in me, I've always loved discretely packaged stuff.

BTW - These are 2004 Wornick government issue MREs that were probably given out as relief after flooding in Alachua County around the same time as Katrina. By pure dumb luck , I grabbed one "A" and one "B" case, so I got one of everything they had in 2004.

Great site, kman!

Welcome to the forums, Big Galloot!

Wow...even for 2004 MREs, $20/case is a pretty good deal. I still have some 2001 MREs around that I've been eating and they don't taste/look any different than the 2006's I tried recently.

Nice score Big Galloot! And at that price, I'd go back and buy all he's got (don't forget to swing by the market and pick up a big `ol bottle of Tabasco to go with them --- burp!). :)

Welcome to our little Internet home that Kman keeps so tidy.....
Everything tastes better with Tabasco
