cheers ken.

Beautiful setup! I got two cases of 04' MCW.. that was a terrific menu lineup.. beef teriyaki, sweet & sour pork, and the beef & chicken flavored ramen.. all sorely missed. I think ramen is back in MCW though..

Thank you norge, it's fun having a new thread like this to share some pictures of the collection.

The pork patty, you gotta mix it with applesauce one day it's really not bad!

Here are a few random pictures. The prototype MRE items.. the retort pouches are filled with dried rice! Which makes me think they were for some sort of display/visual demonstration.

And a meat food product bar from a Frigid Trail Ration.

I got a Norwegian ration from Robin. He called it the "Stay Behind" ration. It is indeed a Frigid Trail. Down to the weight & dimensions and packaging. Only unmarked. Still working on a bit of stuff before I go & spoil the fun with a bunch of photos of it right now. The work needs to be finished first.

Oh and a nice 1987 fruitcake. Nuts a bit rancid, but you can work around them easily

Awesome thread! Love seeing these great collections. When getting into vintage MREs, anywhere you guys recommend a new guy start? For instance, what era or country to try first? Or just give any ole' one a go? There doesn't seem to be a vintage MRE taster user guide lying around.

Well since you are in the united states a good old brown bagger is always an option.
You used to be able to get a case of 1992 Brown baggers from Dudeman, not sure if he still has them however.
C ration from after 1971 might not be to expensive either, might not be edible though.

There should have been a forum with every country listed, and you can add new ration discoveries.
Unknown vintage rations etc.
Would kinda be like wikepedia with Rations.
If we had something like that it would have made it easier to find out what you would want to try.

Pic of those 98 LRPs were in postmans but they could be shared here too.

68 and 98.

Almost had 3 banded cases of those early LRPs, but one was split open and the dude sold off singles. I calculated in the end, he woulda made $300 more had he just sold them to me sealed in the case still. Easier than selling off 24 units separately. I picked out the nicest out of that split case too though and for only $43 auction- those canvas have more times than not lost their vacuum seal. Never came across one that hadn't spoiled yet.. they were never intended to last out like the later ones either though.
