Big Galloot - ha! I just noticed you had photoshopped that 2001 picture above. It wasn't until I clicked on the full size version of that pic that I saw the guy was holding an MRE - I must have missed that the first time I saw it. Nice job!

'Good stuff'? I call it 'bad stuff' - I spend a lot of time at a desk nowadays and need to watch my weight very carefully. I usually walk very fast down the 'snacks' aisle, looking straight ahead, eyes on the fruit & veg....

Well this seems as good a place as any to start my forum presence, what with there being another 'strine here already. :)
I also remember spacefood sticks in lunchboxes as a kid (although here in Oz we only ever had chocolate or caramel flavour, no peanut butter and choc). From memory the caramel was always slightly gritty...god knows what was in it, semi-processed authentic meteor bits or something.
But I can confirm that space food sticks and tang are both still available in most mainstream Aussie shops. Will buy, photograph and taste test 'em for the site shortly.
Oh and the packaging of the one in the photo seems to be a special edition. From memory the packages are normally much plainer with a simple image of a guy on a BMX bike jumping over the moon? Black, white and red for chocolate; black, white and orange for caramel.

Welcome to the forums, Kai'Ckul. The more I keep reading about Space Food Sticks, the more I'm tempted to order some from one of those links I posted earlier.

Thanks for the welcome.

And in return, perhaps I can offer a spacefood stick resale service. I'll find out over the weekend what the cost would be to buy em and if you want to flick me your postcode (no full address details at this stage of course) I'd be happy to see what shipping cost would be. Wouldn't be looking to make a profit, but if people are willing to cover the transportation then I'm happy to become a source of supply (although you might want to wait till the taste review...just to be on the safe side lol)

You're in Australia, right? If you want, you can click the "Profile" button above and add your country or city/state/whatever/country to your profile so it'll show up on all your posts.

Thanks for the offer of shipping. You're right...might be best to wait for the taste tests. :-)

C-rats wrote:Does anyone else remember the "Space Food Sticks" that you could buy at your local market during the APOLLO years? They were sort of like a chewy candy and were actually pretty tasty. They came individually wrapped in a yellow paper & foil wrapper, and were packaged 10 or 12 (I can't remember) per box. I forget who actually made them, but they were real popular with us kids back then (if you had one in your lunch box, you were cooooool, man!). I can't remember any other flavor but chocolate being available. Anyone??

The same company is actually starting to make them again with a new peanut butter flavor.
Here is the link check it out http://www.oldtimecandy.com/space-food-sticks.htm

Crikey I used to love these things as a kid...I'll have to get a box next time I go shopping! Chocolate ones - I never really went for the caramel.

It looks like the energy bars in the French survival ration of the 80's (I thing they were called "ration alimentaire de complément de survie"). They were wrapped in aluminium foil and tasted like a vanilla or chocolate flavoured toffee.
We preferred a good sandwich but the kids really loved the space food style and it was always possible to swap those da... bars for one or two beer cans
