I wonder if this test result would differ depending on which countries' MRE's are eaten since obviously some countries use highly processed foods, while others include some healthier choices including fruit etc.
In other words, would this test subject have the same issues if they ate a mix of, for example, Spanish, Italian or German rations?

Its not the quantity, but rather the nutrients you are getting... With MREs you are getting the nutrition with this proportion: 13% protein, 36% fat, and 51% carbohydrates, but keep in mind, this proportion is suited for a person that has a high energy need... For an adult the proportion should be 20-35% fat 46-65% carbohidrates and 10-35% proteines, with this proportion you tailor to the needs of each individual... The thing is, for a sedentary person, you go for a lower calorie count, resulting in high proportion of proteines and low proportion of carbohidrates and fats and for a individual who needs a lot of energy or has a lot of muscle mass, you increase fats and carbohidrates AND the calorie count... So when you get a diet that is designed for high intensity and you scale just the ammount of calories and not the proportion of the nutrients you end with inbalances... So by having 2 rations daily, this person was eating 2.500kcal which is totally ok, but in proportions that where wrong, and that in the long term is going to give you problems, specially with hidration since proteines are really important for that, and also minerals... You cant simply scale down a diet or scale it up its way more complicated than that
I have Spanish rations permanently, feel free to ask

I see, thanks for the information, so I suppose that the purpose why the Tailored Operational Training Meal (TOTM) exists? For consumption in garrison environments?carlosflar wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:10 pmIts not the quantity, but rather the nutrients you are getting... I really dont know much about the TOTM, never had one so i cant really tell... The key diference probably is in the electrolyte load... The MREs have a1/3 of ''Military Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamins and minerals'' that is surely tailored for high intensity, so you probably have the normal ammount of some vitamins, extra of others, a lot of sodium, calcium, potasium and other minerals and then regular ammounts of others that are unaffected by the high intensity, the TOTM probably packs a more normal load of minerals
