That's usually how I recommend someone stock up on foodstuff, icarus - a nice mix of MREs, dehydrated food, and canned food. That way, you have a variety of food that ranges from ready-to-eat to requires-a-little-prep to needs-full-cooking. The canned stuff is usually cheap and is easy enough to fix when you're out of power for a few days. The dehydrated stuff is easy to carry and the MREs are always there and ready to eat in a pinch.

jubifahrer - enough with the pics of your collection! You're driving me insanely jealous! If I see one more picture of all those various types of rations, I'm going to have to clear out a room in my house, fill it full of shelves, cash out my retirement plan, and hit up eBay for some rations buying! :-)

Just kidding about the pics...keep 'em coming. Like I might have said before, if my wife ever gives me any grief about my rations collection, I just pull up one of your pics and she sees that it could be much worse. :-)

I actually just purchased some MH stuff to test out. The freeze dried food is much more expensive, but I guess if I buy it over time (maybe a month or 2 at a time), I may be able to build up a nice six or nine month supply, possibly mixed in with MRE's and some canned goods.

Thanks again.
9 month supply ?!?!?!

Do you have any information we should know?

At March 2nd, 170 armed swiss soldier´s got lost while walking in the Alp Mountains and had "invade" accidentally the country Liechtenstein (a tiny country between Switzerland and Austria)...

(aprox. 250) MRE´s, 12 box french, 3 x 10 brit.

Icarus:
This are more than 2000 servings I have, without all the side orders, single entree´s and bread a.s.o.
This is enough to feed my familiy (4 persons) for aprox. 6 months. with three meals a day or one person for 2 years.

You will need a lot of space for a 9 month supply and how do you want to store water for a this long periode?
Any suggestions?

Awesome photos!!!

A year or 9 months sounded good until I did cost calculations over the weekend.

Now it's looking more like 3 months for 4 people.

I can store in my basement, but would love the luxury of underground storage somewhere on the property.

As far as the water goes, I will store some, but we do have 2 wells on the property, one I am currently rigging with hand pump. I will keep some water in barrels, but the way I see it, if the Sh*t hits the fan so much where my ground water supply out here in the country is non-drinkable, then me as well as everyone around me are most likely pretty much f*cked.

So you see icarus, is not easy to get a store für 6 or 9 month.

My supply needed 4 years or 5 to get like this.

i dont want to think about the costs, but i think the price would be about 3000$ wthout the rare rations from far countries

So do step by step, compare the offers to get the best price.

I've got a ton of space, but I guess I wasn't thinking of the cost right away.

Wow, 4 years, seems like a long time, but it makes sense.

Do you rotate any of the older food into your everyday diet at intervals and replace as needed?

I would think having the diefferent types of food, MRE's, caned, freeze dried, etc. would be hard to keep track of?

Yes i rotate a little bit, so i selled few MREs produced from 1998 to 2002 and changed them with newer one from 2004.

The germen rations have a shelf live from 25 years, so i dont care for them. sometimes i try one old, maybe 25 year old. but they are always ok.

if i got time i check the rations whether anything is leaked or boiled.

also i eat the rations when i drive to an military event with my bundeswehr bug or bundeswehr thing.

but also our civil supply is very large, we also check it all 2 or 3 month and eat the older things at first.
