You should be able to find the Zataran packages in Albertson's, Safeway, or a Raley's/Bel Air/Nobhill market, albeit at somewhat higher prices. Best price that I've seen in a normal grocery store has been at a Super Wal-Mart for $1.99, haven't seen any in the local Big Lot store, though their price looks even better.
Trader Joe's also has a vegetarian Jambalaya for $1.99, but it's made with Basmati rice and imported from India

I get Zatarains all the time at Big Lots. They sell them for about $.79 or $.99 a pack if I recall correctly. As previously stated, Zatarains is good stuff.

Understood, but
Rogue187 only has one Big Lots store in his city and it may not be in a convenient location for him. Additionally some Big Lots stores may carry items that you may not find at their other stores. And in my city of over a million people, there are only two stores, only one of which is convenient for me. Looks like pricing may be a bit different depending upon the locale as well, the ones that
DangerousDave shared in his pictures appear to have been priced at $1.50 each; albeit still better than the the $2.89 price that I've seen in the local supermarkets.

I tried that one a couple days ago and it was pretty good. I'd buy it again. Today I picked up a couple of the Zatarain's and will be trying them at work either this week or next.

I picked up one of the Trader Joe's but haven't tried it yet. Figured I'd probably throw some ham, chicken, or some diced sausage in with it. Zatarain's dry mixes have always been pretty, I don't doubt that their retorts would be equally good.
Just for the heck of it, I checked a couple of the other Big Lots stores in the area and other than the one near my house, none of the others had any of the SPAM Singles left and the only Zatarain item any of them had in a retort pouch was a Long Grain and Wild Rice blend for $1. They didn't carry any of the entree items.

I had Zatarain's Jambalaya with sausage yesterday for lunch at work. It was pretty good. The sausage was not especially abundant and had a slightly odd flavor. I think the TJ's was a little better, though it had no sausage. Then again - I added hot sauce to the TJ's, so it may have had an unfair advantage. Come to think of it - I'm sure it did.
I'd buy it again.

Just to bring this thread back to the original subject ...

Maybe the TJ's Jambalaya would go well with one of the Spam Singles to complete the meal for us carnivores, since ham (albeit tasso ham) is sometimes used in lieu of andouille sausage in jambalayas. Just don't add up the numbers between the TJ package and the Spam (especially the sodium content.)
