The oldest MRE I've completly eaten has probably been something from 1992 (eaten in 2006). But I've "tasted" a lot of even older MREs and MCIs. Here's a review of an MRE from 1982:

1982 Pork Patty MRE

The MCI's I tried were from 1978 (tasted in 2006) but I only tasted the parts...I didn't actually eat the whole thing.

Ohhh... I almost forgot the 40+years old crackers from the Civil Defense bunker under one school I used to work back in 2001.....

They tasted ok, crunchy and a lil' bit of metallic/plastic taste but were edible. :D :D

Those were sealed in a big aluminum can. When we opened it, the can had vaccuum   !!!!
And Im still alive and kickin'.....

Peace!

Amazing, so the oldest rations eaten in whole are between 20 and 10 years old.

Maybe i should think twice before i say something in a four year old MRE tastes 'funny'.

I ate an entire case of MRE's dated 1984. I'm still alive to tell the tale. i would gladly trade my left testicle for a life time supply of: Beans W/ Tomato sauce, Dehydrated Beef/Pork patties, Ham and Chicken Loaf, and all the Nut Cakes.....

Well probably the oldest I have eaten was a Brit ration pack from 1998 (hardly what I'd call old). Though I am asking my Uncle to check is attic, he was in the army from 1980somthing to 1993 so he must have somthing stashed away, Hes got his old gas mask and an Iraqi helmet from GW1.

Tomorrow I will be testing an MRE entree thats probaby 20 or more years old (My MRE score thread will explain). Should be intetesting, I opened the boxes there no swelling, smell or anything like that.

I've eaten a whole MRE from '92ish. The chocolate nut cake was still moist and tasted wonderful.

I ate the WHOLE case, not wanting them to just lie around.....kept refilling my backpack with them, as i was semi-homeless, these were great for at least making sure i had something to eat. they were all very, very good. The scariest to eat was Chicken Ala King and the Four Fingers Of Death(Beef Frankfurters)....I dig the tiny candy bars they used to put in the accessory packs, too. I took a huge amount of satisfaction opening up them brown bags and seeing my favorite munchies.....
