I keep at least two cases of MRE's on hand, but I also bought a ' 30 days supply ' case from Mountain house, # 10 cans...
I think I'd have to be pretty hungry to dip into those cans, but you never know.....
Plus all the usual canned stuff. and usually 20 or so gallons of clean water, plus a Katadin water filter....
I carry 2 days worth of stuff in each car also, along with a stove and fuel and a cook kit... sleeping bag in the winter, extra water in summer. coupla books too.
Katrina was a rude awakening, and then there's the ' Big One ' ( I live in California )
Boy Scouts taught me to be Prepared, the military taught me to be prepared for anything and everything, and to be heavily armed...

In case of ' crisis ', the local authorities are helpless...

Don't forget that during Katrina, the authorities weren't completely helpless - they had enough manpower available to go around and collect all the guns from private citizens:

The NRA went to court to challenge the gun confiscation order and eventually won - but that didn't help all the people who had their guns illegally confiscated in the first place.

Kman, GEEZ...when did that happen? I don't remember hearing about that in any news report or article?

Hi,
waow, your TV/radio/computer were certainly turned off: we even see at the French TV new the police/military visiting people and confiscating guns!

We talked a lot about that on the French gun owners forums. We though "if they start to confiscate guns in the USA it's hopeless for the gun owners in the rest of the world" :(
Of course there was the gun bans, New-York laws... but your country is still THE world reference for the liberty to own firearms.

If they also ban MRE's, we'll have to find another planet

Heh, we won't have to find another planet, we'll just all have to chip in and buy a retort packaging plant and all go work there. I doubt it would really be all that hard to come up with some better menus if the price wasn't the entire issue.
