Agreed, the combination of some sort of legume and rice are a common staple in many cultures around the world and serves as protein source in countries where meat is less readily available. Additionally in countries like India where much of the population is vegetarian, the legumes are a significant source of their daily protein. And lest we forget, the favorite wash-day meal in Lousiana of red beans and rice.
