First Brown Bag Open
First Brown Bag Open
Opened up my first brown bag,(which is one of the first two real MREs I ever bought, the other was the early 2000’s I posted here to get help with date). Think it’s a 1986 based off the bean components pouch, none of the other components have a date. The box is not really readable so I’ll go by the pouch. Haven’t opened any components, kind of want to save since it’s my first, plus I learned something cool about this menu (cool for me anyhow). My father was in the army, and this was the first MRE he ever ate, and his favorite. Was interesting to hear his experience with it, kinda puts me in his shoes back then. Anyways, just wanted to share. I’ve since got a case of FSR and am awaiting my first full case of reg US MREs. Hope everyone is well
Can’t help it, any time I am dishing up food of any kind…..
Let’s get this out onto a tray…..nice!
Drives everyone crazy lol but I love it

Hoping to find a second one so I can taste one of them. Watched Steve1989 try one and would love to give it a shot.

Re: First Brown Bag Open
Very cool! Nothing like the old brown bags. Welcome to the hobby, and the forums!
First Brown Bag Open
The 5oz entree means it is among the earliest issued MRE. Later meals had 8oz entree. Note the cryptic warning on the pouch “Not for Pre-Flight/Flight Use”. The only meal thus marked. Care to take a guess why that might be?
This was not a popular meal with the troops for similar reasons. Ask your dad why. He’ll probably know.
