MRE date coding, and calories ???

Post by icarus » Mon Jul 30, 2007 8:55 am

Is there a away to decode the numbers on the MRE packaging to figure out when it was actually packed? I'm talking about the numbers on the individual items - entre, sides, etc.

Also, when calculating the calories of a complete MRE meal, does the total calorie content include ALL of the items in the pack - including the candy, the drink mixes, the gum, etc.?

Thanks

The datecodes on the individual MRE items are the same as on the outside of the MRE case itself: XYYY - X=single digit of the year, YYY=day of the year. So 7032 would mean February 1, 2007.

You've probably seen this page:

but here it is again just in case.

As for the calories, I have heard that the calorie count does include everything - including the creamer, sugar, gum, drinks, etc.
