MRE entree Beef Goulash

Post by mikeoverhere » Thu Sep 12, 2019 7:35 pm

I see Epicenter got a new load of MRE components in. One of them is the Beef Goulash. However they list the date of manufacture as 2017. Is this the same main as in the 2019 Beef Goulash MRE that replaced the Asian Beef Strips? I'm confused as to why it would have been made two years before the 2019 menus included it. Was it in the Halal or Kosher case? It's $3.69

Shhh don't tell anyone but yet it is the same thing and comes off the same lines. From what I know a lot of the time what goes into the MREs will be 1 to 2 years behind before the DoD says yep put it in due to testing and so on.

Of course there's no accounting for individual tastes, but I ate an Asian Beef main on Friday and enjoyed it.

Only thing it was lacking was hot sauce. I'll never understand why they stopped including it with most of the meals. Would gladly trade all the milkshakes for it to return.

I agree, I like the Asian Beef main. Maybe because I'm half Japanese? And the old Pork Chow Mien which was basically the same thing but with pork and crunchy chow mien noodles was one of my all time favorites. In fact, I am still enjoying that old main courtesy of Dudeman253 though it seems a bit snotty in texture. I am disappointed Asian Beef is being discontinued. There are so many mains and components I don't understand why have been discontinued, especially when they were popular when there are so many that I find pretty bad.

I got the Beef Goulash from Epicenter but I have yet to actually try it. I hope it's so good that I won't miss Asian Beef. Before I saw it reviewed, I was really hoping for something more like European Goulash but this is not the case. I find the mains in most foreign rations are so much better than US, they are hard to even compare. Just my opinion though.
