US Mre

Post by Lightos » Mon Mar 18, 2019 5:06 pm

Hello everybody! I am new to mres but so far I have found a lot of information about them. My question is that are US Mres legally allowed to be bought from army stores by civilians? I am asking this because of the Government property, Commercial resale is unlawful label. I know that I am not the first person to ask this but I would appreciate the help. Btw I am not a US citizen.

It´s maybe not allowed in the US, but outside US nobody cares.

It's not illegal, there is no law prohibiting it, that's why it's no problem to buy them at ebay US. You got nothing to fear.

They sell MREs on military bases, at the Commissary (grocery store) but you have to be in the military or retired to shop there.

It is in fact illegal to sell them commercially. I don't think they've ever prosecuted a single case of it, so that's why people take the risk.

Thank you for the really quick responses, you are awesome! My main concern was that do I commit a crime if I buy a US military MRE from a legit army (hobby) shop in my country ( I am from Slovakia, EU). They give receipts about everything, so the MRE would be bought from a shop, not a private person. They are selling them as collectibles.

I believe you are beyond even the longest arm of the law.

You will be fine, buy it.
Technically it is illegal but, that warning is on the bag probably more to deter soldiers from selling them. There are thousands of shops that sell them here in the US and countless online sellers. Never heard of anyone getting in trouble.

I remember postings when ebay USA had "problems" when selling MREs due to it was illegal. But can´t recall exactly.
I have had the Police over last fall when "a guy" filed a charge against me for selling MREs.

I think it really depends on the situation. For example, you're the quartermaster of a US Army unit and skim some cases and sell them, that's illegal for sure.
But if you buy it from a vendor or a private person you can assume in good faith that they got it through a legal way like the on-base commissaries (?) or surplus of the manufacturer.

Hopefully nothing happened, right? There are no legal grounds for that... MREs are not contraband and if they want to treat them as stolen goods someone would have to report them stolen in the first place.
