I haven't heard much about the UGR-E lately and additionally haven't seen them listed on the dla.mil site either.
That said, I was just reading the following .pdf http://www.dla.mil/Portals/104/Document ... 150101.pdf from 2015 and noticed something:
Now I see why.... Ooh well, to me the tray main menu's included in this ration were not that good anyway so I say good riddance... well for now!

Re: UGR Express Discontinued For Now
Believe they'll return when needed. Read somewhere that UGR=E's were much more expensive than the other UGRs. Matter of fact, the USMC required permission from HQ USMC before ordering them.
The concept is still valid. My guess - there are contracts in place to produce them if needed, and would expect research/testing to continue. As I understand it a good deal of lead time is needed between ordering and delivery. They have to be produced by the contractor, then shipped to Government depots, then shipped to the area of operations.
