80s US MRE?

Post by ViperGTS » Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:51 am

Hi all, did some research without much luck in finding an answer...

About 25 years ago or so, my dad had a dark brown bag MRE that contained a salisbury steak type/looking entree. We were in the middle of the woods in upstate NY and it is a memory that has stuck with me, oddly. I'm guessing it was produced in the 80s, but wondered if anyone had any idea what it was, and a possible production year.

My dad is an old guy now but we still talk about the time when we split it, sitting around a campfire.

I plan on bringing some current US rations with me as a surprise, when i visit for xmas... I doubt i can find the same old ration we had decades ago.

Any help is appreciated.
TY

Sounds like the "Beef Pattie" (menu #3) from the early MREs -- 1981 through 1987.

As I recall, some of those early entrees were not shelf-stable, but dehydrated. They had to be soaked in water, then heated. I had a few of those, but never tried them out.

Thanks, i'll check it out.
My memory may be shot, but i thought it was in a sauce of some kind. Wish i could remember the other contents of the ration.

I don't know about the patty of that vintage, but the fairly modern ones are in a watery sort of seasoning. I wouldn't exactly call it a sauce. It's pretty much a hamburger.

I didnt check out "beef slices" cause i assumed there would be multiple pieces. But that review shows the single patty that i remember!
