MRE squares

If you look at the back of the retort pouches, they always have that square pressed design. Reasons?

The Retort Pouches Are Placed In Either A Metal Or Plastic "Cage" Or Tray When Going Thru The Pressure Sterilization Process...The Squares You See Are The Ones Which Were Touching On The Bottom When It Occurred.


Here's A Video, And You Can Briefly See Them Loading The Pouches In A Tray Before Heading To The Autoclave:
