Microwave Safe?

Does anyone know if USA MRE pouches are microwaveable?

Good question, Revenant. I'm surprised someone here hasn't actually tried this yet...and reported the results of the fire. :-)

The MRE pouches contain three layers of material - mylar, foil, and then more mylar. So microwaving it would be a bad thing. If you need to nuke your MRE, the best way to do it would be to empty the pouch into a microwave-safe bowl and nuke that.

I'm still waiting for someone to try heating up an MRE entree RCIR (French MRE)-style - by placing the entree bag directly over a block of hexamine/trioxane:

I'm betting the first layer of mylar would melt/burn/smell, but I wonder what would happen to the foil layer?

Any takers?
