specific Air Force C-rats/MCI's?

Post by Stef » Tue Sep 19, 2006 1:27 pm

Hello,
in the 80's I've had a US ration called "flight ration" or something like that.
It was almost identical to a MCI except this marking on the box, the flap was on the narrowest side of the box, there was a can of orange juice in the ration and also a toothpick called "interdental stimulator"!
In fact, I found the idea of calling a toothpick "interdental stimulator" so funny that I still remember the name 20 ou 25 years later

I think the entree in the box was a turkey loaf, or was it "beef & potatoes"...? :?

Do you know the kind of ration?

Stef, check out this thread:

viewtopic.php?t=394

It talks about the same type of MREs. It looks like these special "in-flight" MREs were specially formulate to reduce the painful affects of gas (and not the fuel-kind) at altitude.

Yes olli, I guess it was that kind of deadly weapon. I remember the "interdental stimulator" itself was made of orange plastic.

HAHAHA, I couldn't imagine it was in fact a "fart-free-rat"

Thanks for the info olli and kman

After C-Rats(MCI's, whatever) were phased out about '82-'84+, the Air Force was still getting them, but the cans were not painted O.D. I bought a case of them about 1986 at a gunshow. Just like regular C-rats, but every can in every box was copper/tin colored. Heck, they even had the ham and eggs can, which I reluctantly took back to Kansas and gave to my Squad Leader, as a gift. LOL, but true story. Can't remember anything more, except all the cans in the case were gold-ish colored. 8)

Yeeees, you're right: I remember this gold-ish color, just like on some hardware used outside (= TV antenna pipes for instance).
Obviously, camouflage is not essential in a plane.

Hi,

The stimulator interdental was entree of MCI Accessory Packets in the early seventies. In my collection is one Acce packed by SEAL BAG with a stimulator.

Its funny that the wooden stimulators also can be used as tooth-brush! :D
