Walnettos were a popular candy in the United States prior to 1940.
They are supposed to look like that, but they are supposed to taste good. I'm sure that the oil in the nuts must have spoiled them.
If you get them fresh, they are actually a really pleasant candy.

Yes, I remember those things! They would get hard like a rock if the MRE's were stored in heat (inside a vehicle). They tasted like crap too, I need to add them to my list of Don't Like's.
