LOL and those are both meals i haven't tried, i'll have to break them out and give them a shot. I had a roast beef w/ vegetables MRE for lunch during my avalanche course, then spent an hour at the pub after the exercise telling my teammates about MRE's and Brit Rats (A couple of them actually had eaten many IMP's while in cadets too).
The instructor told us a story of heading up on a rescue in a snowcat, which had a box of MRE's onboard. Not even the hardcore survivalists dug in! I don't know why people are so scared of military rations... i mean if they can keep our troops nourished enough to fight a war they've gotta be good! I'll have to bring a case out on our next field exercise and talk some more people into trying them! Might have to bring twice their weight in beer to help my cause though

fdsman,
Thanks for the link! You know, even though I wrote that post almost a year ago, people are still finding it and it's still getting hits way outside my regular blog readership...
I've never served in the military, but I have to say that I *did* eat some first-generation MREs while working as a defense contractor and testing systems in the field with the Army Signal Corps, and the more recent versions are a decided improvement.
All best,
Barry Campbell ('enrevanche')
P.S. For the full experience, you could always check out the podcast episode that goes along with the blog post (if you're very bored) -

Hi enrevanche (Barry) - welcome to the forums! I see you're kind of like me with the mreinfo.com log files - I'm always checking out the referring websites and that always seems to pick up some interstesting links. Maybe I ought to start posting some of those referring links in the forums to give some of the other members a glance into the world-wide MRE web.
About your blog post - interesting stuff. I always appreciate a good MRE commentary that includes pictures! I'm especially impressed that you actually ate that Veggie Burger sandwich-like with two pieces of wheat bread. I can never bring myself to eat it (veggie or real-meat) like that because that seems to be bread-overload to me.
