Weird Civilian MREs?

Post by Halvor » Sun May 06, 2012 12:53 am

Just wondering if anyone else had noticed this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MRE-Meals-ready ... 33756f04ad

Seems like a small-company private label thing, but I'm not sure.

Interesting find, Halvor. It does look like Meal Kit Supply is now selling a USA-version of their product on eBay. This box looks a little different than the one they sell in Canada.

Eep, kinda pricey at roughly $10.82 a meal.

Ah, thank you for the information. I take it that the 'DoD contractor' mentioned in the ebay listing would be Sopakco, as in the canadian version described by Kman?
If so, would I be correct in assuming that this would be basically the same thing as a Sure-Pak, but maybe with choicier components?
I might be missing something, but if the point was to allow easy sale in canada, why bother to sell in the US when the Sure-Pak is readily available?

Yes its Sopakco for the components. The difference is that our menu is better than anything else out there. If you examine the menu, you'll see more food, and the best (and most expensive) components. Every food component is a fresh US military MRE component, and we have Tabasco sauce, Vanilla pudding, dairy shakes, MANY different desserts -- all the best items. I've designed this case for people who actually expect to eat the MRE, not let it expire in their basement.

Yeah, it sure looks like it- the menus sound amazing, and the freshness is a big plus. I'm glad someone out there has something like this available.
I think you might have just won a new customer! :)

Anyways, thanks to all for the information.

Good to hear from the maker, but personally I'm not seeing the value. At practically double the cost of a case of US MREs with shipping there are only 10 unique entrees and 5 unique sides in the twelve meal case and the full selection is only those twelve meals. The dessert variety looks very well thought out and I think it was a good choice to use the electrolyte drink for all twelve instead of some being just juice, but overall I don't think the more carefully selected menu is worth the price.
