I'm thinking about simply calling Wornick or another MRE manufacturere to see what kind of money they want to retrieve a few certain MRE components, namely, "Beans W/Tomato Sauce", "Ham and Chicken Loaf", and just about any nut cake you can imagine.
I'm almost certain that if enough money is waved under someone's nose, anything is possible.
Has anyone else here on the forums ever tried to see about doing this? How much cash would it take?

Hi,
it is certainly a good idea to retrieves some discharged MRE components, but I don´t think that that would be possible! There is always a reason for discharging a component, don´t matter what, and so in my opinion they will not start producing them again!

Funny thing about that idea. I just got a flyer not to long ago about MREDepot having a spring sale or something on canned cakes. I read the website on them. According to the description the cakes are simliar to the older MCI/C-Rat pound cakes they made back when if not from the same manufacturer. So it definitely gives some credibility to the idea of waving enough money for somebody to bring a old favorite back only more recently made.

A while back ago I made an e-mail request to
nati-amsrd-nsc-ad-b@conus.army.mil for the recipes for MRE cherry nut cake and meatballs, rice, in spicy tomato sauce and they were very good about sending them to me in PDF format. I believe that the MRE recipes are all unclassified public documents that should be available to just about anybody. If you were a manufacturer, or bidding on a contract to be a manufacturer, you'd be able to get them. I suspect that the Natick Labs would be very accomodating so long as they don't receive thousands of requests...

I'm pretty sure that if you were ready to order enough to make it worth their while (think in the order of pallet loads here) that they would do it. It is a business after all. For a few cases, probably not as likely. 10k pieces, they'll be showing you where to sign.

I'm not sure if I'm following this thread or not - is this about bringing back discontinued ration options for personal purchase? At first I thought you were saying that with enough money they could be convinced to check their storerooms for older items that were left behind but it seems more like you're talking about putting them back into production. If that's the case I don't think there's a realistic number that's going to get them to jump. Wornick isn't making thousands, tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of these items, they're making tens of millions of them. Production is setup to save as much as possible and the time and money put into ensuring a sterile environment for ingredients and end product is staggering. To start producing a new item costs them insane amounts of money so while I'm not saying it's impossible I am saying it's unlikely that there's a number anyone but the gov can throw out that they'll accept.
