MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
Most of the investigations from what I have heard from guys still in service seem to focus on finding Soldiers involved in selling multiple cases on Ebay/Craigslist. They are looking for the soldier who is selling ALOT not the petty one or two cases a reserve soldier had to pay for drill.

The Breakfast cake basically taste's like a regular plain jane UGR cake. To me they all pretty much taste alike the icing though being the difference. The Maple syrup is very bland tasting too basically a hint of maple not much more... I think the cake part taste's better without the maple syrup.

Hey Cavguy,
So the Breakfast Cake is more like your typical birthday cake than that of a pancake?
I had a feeling the Maple Syrup might be a bit bland. I could just barely make out the nutritional content and from what I can see the sugar content isn't even two-digits in gram weight. I was half-expecting to see 30, 40, 50 or more grams in sugar alone. From the pics of the auction it looks like it was somewhere around 7 - 9 grams?

Yep you got it, exactly like the birthday cake at least to me.
Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
I have never understood the logic of allowing drill 'management' to trade MREs...while forcing 'drillers' to then pay for those same meals now missing from and originally allocated to the base for either said purpose or long term preparedness in general.cavguy wrote:Most of the investigations from what I have heard from guys still in service seem to focus on finding Soldiers involved in selling multiple cases on Ebay/Craigslist. Since we ask these reservists to serve all over the world and most likely more and more in this country (very soon, in my opinion) also...why doesn't simply paying for these soldier's meals while they're on drill...effectively eliminate the entire MRE black market all together? (not realistically but in terms of spending tax money checking dates/barcodes and making judgment calls to allocate even more resources to go after somebody).
Am I missing something here(?)...or is this blatant and unwarranted attempt to get in to reservists pockets...actually supporting the (legal?) worldwide sale of miltary meals (legal or not) that is in question here?
I guess my second question would be...how many cases can a reservist purchase from his base (which one would think be a federal law/imitation) to cover all his drills for say a year or even his entire length of service? With the government now broke, I would certainly be purchasing the maximum number each and every time it was afforded if I was able...as the price will inevitably being going up over time if you are already being forced to pay to survive in the first place.
Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
I think it is all about if a soldier is drawing BAH/BAS this is the allowance for housing / sustenance given to a soldier when called to duty. If you are drawing BAH or BAS then they make you pay for your meals out of that allotment, if you are a single soldier they do not take it out of your BAS because you do not get BAS so you are basically paying full price and not getting to keep the extra $$ left over you would if you draw BAS. Been awhile as I only focused on the Active side of the house but I think I got it right more recently things may change though.
Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
Thanks, cavguy.
I have no idea how the military keeps the 'active' scenario straight that you describe...vs any basic sustenance rules somehow differing for the 'reservist' either active or on drill.
One would think that if a MRE is indeed required in any given situation that it is simply provided. As I've alluded to before concerning simple field stripping and the 'malnutrition' issue, if first tier leadership is truly keeping track of how many meals are eaten and who actually ate them (how hard is this) for more critical reasons than I can list here...how are we possibly having issues similar to what the OP illustrates above (save theft)...especially when I seem to keep coming across those even in the general public seemingly eating all of the MREs that they can stomach?
Forcing a soldier (of any status) to unbelievably 'pay' for a battle or training ration MRE seems way beyond ludicrous to me if the needed MREs are being properly doled out in the first place (especially when we're spending billions to thankfully feed our soldiers anything 'but' just as much as possible, I hope).

Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014
This guy's back again - same seller but this time he has 40 cases. The insp. dates are all 07/2014 or later so these are 40 different cases than the 36 he had for sale in August.
This has gotta be crooked - who gets 80 cases of absolutely fresh MREs within a few months?

Are we back on this guy again...
I remember this deal, I'm surprised this guy has that many MRE cases to sell and not to far away from Camp Pendleton, just seems rather odd to me. I wonder if he sold his last giant lot?
