Hi!
I did a search and am a bit mixed up.
Is the U.S. military still issuing a cold weather ration?
does it consist of all dehydrated items and has anyone sampled one?
Thanks.
Current U.S. Cold Weather Ration?

Yes, the MCW/LRP:

I have tried one, and it's enough food for 2 normal people...

Interesting menu choices, but I still think that the older, late cold-war issue white pouches had more food in them. Of course I've been trying to find them for awhile and no luck. I think the older white pouched food had a longer shelf-life also.

Yeah, the white bagged RCWs last a long time.
I've got most of a case that's over 11 years old. Ate one a few months ago and everything tasted perfect.

Actually, I'm trying to find the white pouch cold weather rations, anyone have any they'd like to sell me or know where I can get some? Thanks.

Re: Current U.S. Cold Weather Ration?
http://www.beprepared.com has some of the entrees on clearance. Just do a search on their site for LRP.
We're looking into making a civilian version of the RCW/LRP. The only difference between the two rations seems to be the accessory kit. Basically, one provides hot cocoa mix and the other provides cold beverage mix and an extra pack of toilet paper.
The entree is made by Oregon Freeze Dried Foods -- the same folks who make Mountain House. If you're dying to know what the RCW tastes like (like I was) pick up a Mountain House Pro-Pac Vacuum Pouch meal. It has an oxygen absorber inside to add to the shelf life.
