Menu C ok to purchase now?

Post by fdsman » Sat Apr 10, 2010 3:08 am

I remember reading and seeing bad things about Menu C MREs, things like more than expected civilian items being included instead of MRE items. Is this still the case? Or should I just find some USGI MREs or new Eversafes?

I think I remember a post by kman that reported that they updated/corrected the menus/contents of the Menu C's. I bought some Menu C's a while ago out of curiosity and can definitively say that you're better off buying legit GI MRE's...given the Menu C's cost around $79/case but still have less in them compared to real MRE's. Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I didn't have a good experience with the Menu C's. Plus you really don't get the same level of variety as you do with USGI. Plus they cost a lot more, esp. after factoring in the shipping...

My 2011 Menu C pouch contents didn't at all match the posted menu lists. Even pouches labelled the same would have different contents. Better than nothing if it's all you can get.

I have to echo Jpak & Hannonmc's comments about their disappointment with the Menu C rations. I also purchased a couple of cases over a year ago, and I wasn't at all impressed with them. Very little variety in them with respect to entrees, and I do recall that they had a preponderence of osmotic raisins and peanut butter as side dishes. USGI MREs' would have been the way to go.

I'm kind of at a loss here. Never in my life have I had a real USGI MRE for the simple reason that none of the surplus stores around here carry them. They all carry civilian brands. So the only way I'd be able to buy one would be off of ebay or a similar site.

I might end up doing that anyways since I'm dying to try one.
