Bad Ebay experience

Post by FortOrd1989 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 11:20 pm

Just bought a case of MREs using ebay. Was listed as menu A 1-12 with 2009 expiration. Seller has 100% positive feedback.
I received a box that was previously opened. Half of the MREs were switched with less desirable ones. Lot numbers are inconsistent. 5 of the MREs were vegetarian. I emailed the seller that I want a refund. No response yet.

If he ignores me, I just realized that ebay purchase protection does not cover food purchases.

I'm giving him a couple days to reply to me. Moral of the story: When bidding for MREs on Ebay, always ask the seller if the box has been opened.

Best thing to do right now is open a case against the seller and work it through the ebay system. That way you'll cover your rear if the seller refuses or never complies with ebay. Trust me I just went through a case with a deadbeat buyer.

I agree with Treesuit's recommendation, go ahead and open a case against the seller via ebay. Ebay gives the seller time to respond even after you open a case, so you might as well start one now just in case while you're waiting for the seller to respond. If he's a legit and decent ebay seller, he should make things right, but check to see if the auction description included a caveat that the MRE case was already opened or re-packaged. If the auction description listed a new, unopened case of MREs then you probably have a good case based on the misleading or false description.

Ebay's policies have shifted over the past few months and really seem to favor the ebay buyers now over the ebay sellers. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed since I've only encountered 1 deadbeat buyer so far and no bad sellers. Just for the future though, try to only buy items off ebay from sellers that have several hundred positive feedback ratings or more. Even then, check the seller's feedback page. If the deal sounds too good to be true it probably is...

The guy just paid me $30. That means my total cost for 12 MREs was only $15 plus shipping. I am happy now.

Glad it worked out for you, I had a helluva time trying to get a phone number from Ebay's customer support just so I could talk to a live person and update my case.

Ebay does their damndest to make things hard to find on their webpage for any kind of help. :x

Yeah, Ebay is pretty greedy, but you have to admit that their business is ingenious. They make billions of dollars just running a website. They never have to store or ship merchandise.
