Anyone else notice these auctions?

Post by Big Galloot » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:25 am

MREFoods has been selling MRE entrees on EBAY: http://stores.ebay.com/MRE-Foods

If you notice they ask $11.00 + $12.00 shipping for the entree 12-packs. Meanwhile, if you go to their website(www.mrefoods.com) they will sell you the same thing for $ 22.00 w/shipping included.

Naturally, EBAY takes a slice so the extra dollar is probably a wash, but this morning I saw that some yahoo has bid $ 18.50 for 12 Chili-macs. Am I the only person who checks retail prices before bidding on something?

That doesn't really suprrise me. That's one of the reasons why eBay is so appealing to sellers is because a lot of people get on eBay and get "eBay fever" where they bid way more for things than they really should pay.

I say more power to them. These people are obviously going to part with their money in some other unintelligent way. :-)

Personally, I'm starting to really get a negative vibe about eBay with the way they're now REQUIRING PayPal for all purchases. No more checks, no more money orders. They say it's for our "protection" but it just so happens that by requiring PayPal, eBay now gets to double-dip in the profits. It's one thing to offer PayPal as an alternative but to force it on us? What's wrong with good old cash or money orders?

eBay

Hello,

I actually manage MRE Foods and have the same feeling about some of the things eBay is implementing / changing. Seller fees continue to increase and they do appear to be double dipping with the PayPal requirement. In my opinion, the money order is the safest method of payment.

Just my two cents.

I know I've ended up paying more for something than I should have on ebay, but its also gone the other way too. I don't blame people for making a profit, but man, the time is ripe for an ebay opponent that's actually worth a crap. The problem with ebay is that other than amazon, there's nothing to even come close to it; I've tried all the wanna be ebays and theres nothing to buy.

Big Mark,

Hey I hear ya on that, I sell quite a bit on Ebay and buy very little mainly because of the shipping is so goddamn high. Ebay takes a cut on just about everything. Then they ratchet up their prices and force everyone to play along. It's getting so the true spirit of Ebay is getting muddled and confused. Geez! :x

If you want rare and unique entree's then Long Life Foods, Epicenter, and MRE Depot are good, but I consider Ebay as a last resort for MRE's and other rations. We also have this forum as a alternative, which seems to work well.
