Great find - and good price! I hope you have better luck with those than I did with the Pork Patty MRE from 1982:

mreheater72, too bad you can't get in on the pork chop group buy I just mentioned here:

viewtopic.php?t=752

Then you could compare the old and new ones side-by-side. Maybe you could get in on the group buy - I just don't know if they ship overseas - and I can only imagine how much that shipping would be!

Thanks for the good link, kman!

I have not opened the can yet! But when shake it, it sounds like the pork chops have been agglutinated to a clumb! I´m rather sure, they are not eatable anymore!

Hi guys,

last weekend once again I found on a German flea market a nice complement for my collection :D :

It is stamped:

142

D7 56

Do anyone know how old it could be :?: :?: ?

I estimate it is from the eighties.

The place where it was produced is called "Sleepy Eye", a funny name.

In Germany years ago there was a TV series called "Unsere kleine Farm".
I remember the place where it plays was Sleepy Eye.

my guess: 1956? since the can is olive drab color
have only seen metal color on the cans from 1970 to today.
so maybe its from late korea or early vietnam period.
cheers from norge

I bought a case of military surplus dehydrated pork chops from MREDepot a month or so ago. They are about 10 years old and probably have easy another 20 years or more left in them

One of the cans was rusty and I was concerned that perhaps it had rusted through, so I opened it and the can was fine.

Man those things are tasty. An hour or so in a salt water brine (overnight is better) and they are god if you don't overcook them. I used some, took some on a trip, and packed the rest away using my foodsaver.

I also picked up a case of the military surplus freeze dried cottage cheese and dehydrated American cheese but I am not going to open that til I need it.

Speaking of which MRE depot is going to have surplus dehydrated chicken in 5 or 6 weeks , according to the owner Steve.

I tried some of the non-military, Mountain House freeze-dried pork chop pieces and they were definitely very good. As for those eggs, I couldn't make out the date stamp on the lid, but if does say "56", then 1956 might be a good guess.

Hi guys,

at ebay.com there is an current auction with nearly the same EGG MIX cans, but there is no olive green finish. Its seem that they were packed 1974.

Very nice collectable, but very expensive and not available in Germany :( ...
