US/Roman Numerals/MRE

Post by DangerousDave » Fri Apr 25, 2008 3:34 am

I don't know if anyone ever brought this up before, but it just occured to me, that the U.S. Gov't. uses Roman Numerals for year/menu info. for MRE's. I learned Roman Numerals in the 3rd. grade(Public School), but it was just for History of civilation purposes. Whats with this? Even on the DSCP site. Whats with this? :?:  :!:

Good question - and I don't think I've ever heard an explanation for that.

The German EPas have them also:
I
II
III
IV (untill 1990th)

but as Roman numbers are still (very) common in Europa - I never thought about...
