How Often Do You Consume MREs

Post by excelblue » Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:32 am

How often do you guys consume MREs here? Once per day, once per week, etc.? How long does it take you to go thru a case of MREs?

I'm wondering if I'm being a bit wasteful by consuming an MRE for lunch at school every day. I mainly justify it because it comes off hotter than the school lunches at a slightly cheaper cost, is high tech, and has lots of nutritional value (unlike the school lunches, which have almost none).

It depends on what I'm up to or how I'm feeling in a particular week. I probably average one a week - but sometimes going weeks without and sometimes going through a whole bunch at once.

I keep them mostly for emergencies, though when I first started buying them it was hard for me to build my stock because I kept eating them. Now I'm over the initial fascination and know what most of the meals taste like, so I don't dig into them unless I'm really broke or unless I'm rotating for newer meals. I'll also try the new flavors or items as they come out so I'll know If I want to add them to my supplies.

When ever I get a case or 2, I say to myself, I'm going to save these for an emergency. But, all of them are history in about a week or 2. I do have a case A and B packed November 2006, hidden away in my Dad's garage, 50 miles away, and I ordered him to not let me bust them open. He guards them with a vicious Shepherd and an M1911A1. :)
