super-clueless eBay seller

Post by kman » Tue Mar 11, 2008 9:08 am

Most of the time, I just ignore these auction but for some reason this guy just irritates me this morning. Check out this asshat's auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0219363168

Starting bid is $8 for a SINGLE MRE...or $14 for Buy-it-Now. To top it off, the guy is only a few hours away from me but he still wants $11 to ship it Parcel Post (slowest way possible).

Sorry...can't resist...I have to email him.

Ok...it was close. I had a perfectly nasty email all typed up and ready to send to them via eBay...then I just said "f*ck it" and deleted it. $25 for a single MRE? Let them eat the eBay fees for an unsold item.

If I get in a particularly crotchety mood later, I'll just report the auctions for fee avoidance through inflated shipping charges.

While I'm at it...and while I'm apparently having a really great conversation here with just myself...check out this auction by DangerousDave's favorite seller, oletroop:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0210929638

This is for Filled French Toast - 2 packages of it for $5 plus $4.65 for shipping.

What's funny is that you can get this same thing from LongLifeFood.com for $1.40 each, including free shipping:

http://www7.mailordercentral.com/longli ... 1&mitem=44

This is the second time he's sold this item for this price - the last auction recently closed and actually had three bidders.

I like the part where he's just selling it for shipping costs and his time

Jeez. kman is the ebay ninja or something, always picking up on the good and bad deals. I remember when I used to do that, always look at the last posted auctions to make sure I wasn't missing a badass buy it now. I'm trying to not ebay as much as possible right now, as a quiet protest against the way they're making their change, but I broke down and bought some pea soup tabs last night from Germany. Erbswurst. The guys shipping was only $10 to get it to me, so that wasn't terrible, but I basically paid $7 a tube for some pea soup.

MRE Price Gouging

Post by jfko6 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 2:36 pm

What the guy is saying (I believe) is that we are in a real recession. Price gouging MRE's may become commonplace. $4.00 gallon gasoline is on the horizon. The price of heating your home has gone way up. That equates to increased cost of heating up your MRE on the stove.

So, yes we are all feeling the pinch.

This is real.

Not an MRE item, but last weekend some US-based goatblower on eBay was insisting on an arbitrary $10 'handling fee', and minimum $30 postage, for... wait for it... a single comic book. Now that's gouging.

Hey,
Does anybody have any more assshat ebay sellers to point out? I'm sure with this recession we're all in I'm sure there's more of them out there that are looking to gouge some people on MRE's (i.e. the unwilling) That and I need a good laugh.
