Bizarre

Post by SpikNik » Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:02 am

I just opened a Menu 16 (2004) Chicken with noodles for lunch.

In it I found, and I'm quoting this from what it says on the box....

RASPBERRY FLAVORED APPLESAUCE

:?: :?: :?: :?:

I'm wondering if APPLESAUCE in American English actually means something else other than "sauce made from and tasting like apples", or maybe it is a brand name. Either way though, "Raspberry flavored applesauce", it just looks odd!

I hadn't thought of it before, but now that you point it out, Raspberry Applesauce does sound a little weird. Then again, there are other products where they mix fruit flavors together.

But if you're wondering about the particular combination of Raspberry and Applesauce, that seems to be a pretty common mixture over here in the US. When you find Applesauce in the grocery store, you can usually find Raspberry Applesauce right next to it.

Raspberry, Cinnamon, Peach, uhmm.. there are more than that even. I eat regular or cinnamon, but the other flavors are okay in the little cups or something.

Well, this pic kinda sucks as someone was about to walk by when I took it, but to give you an idea of the selection of applesauce we have.. the scooby doo brand flavor was pirate punch..

We have have the same product up here in Canada. The main one is the Mott's brand but the big grocery chains like Loblaws and Sobey's carry their own brands as well. The flavors vary from regular apple, mango/peach, blueberry, mixed berry, etc. Meal Kit Supply used to include the raspberry applesauce in their MREs but I think it's been discontinued (haven't found one yet in my case of Meal Kit Supply meals).

same thing here!

We also have apple-pear, apple-banana and apple-chestnut (very common).

They all seem weird to me(even if some of then taste pretty good!), an apple sauce ("compote" in French) is apple-apple or apple-cinamon, that's all
