FRH

Post by madcapmagician » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:39 am

Just got in some 2003 menu's in from ebay. I was surprised how the FRH heater was packaged. Here is the pic. The heater was folded up inside the package  I have never seen one done like this.

It seems like they did this for a year or so and then stopped. Maybe they were starting to get worried about accidental FRH activations but then gave it up because of the cost.

I've seen this a few times too - we were told by TrueTech a while ago that it was done for a brief period during the 1st Gulf war because of the concerns about bringing the heaters onto commercial flights.

The heaters are approved to carry on board as long as the outer meal/poly bag was still sealed. But this meant that a lot of troops returning from the Gulf had to discard opened meals or worse, weren't allowed to open sealed meals for consumption.

If the FRH was sealed in a seperate pocuh, then apparently the meal itself was OK to open on the flight home.

Supposedly it was given up because it almost doubled the cost.
