Re: California Fires Evacuation
We're up the coast from the fires. Smoke added colors to sunrise yesterday. Fires are between my kids and their families. One lives north of the Ventura fire, other lives south of the Malibu-area fire.

Re: Chow Hall details (Menus/planning)?
When I was enlisted in the 70's, at various times ate in both Air Force and Army chow halls. At that time AF chow halls were a cut above what the Army provided. I often ate in my room or downtown instead of dining at the Army chow hall at the Defense Language Institute. At that time (74-75) the Army...

Re: USMC ration documents
No idea has anyone read any of these: but the first of the documents i found included stipulations and regulations for chow hall menu items including this interesting snippet 5. Not more than one gas-forming cooked vegetable such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and dried beans a...

Re: Meal, Quick Serve 6 Man
Two things I noticed here: 1) Definitely uses a lot of MCI components, or components from group ration kits. Whoever designed this might have a great idea from the 5-in-1 ration before. 2) Bears resemblance to a very early UGR dinner ration, minus the self heaters or tray ration heaters. I'm going ...

Re: North Korean Ration?
Well yeah, but it was pretty good wasn't it? No, it was awful. That wouldn't even be close to an NK ration, if they have their own. First, NK is pretty particular about pictures of Kim Il Song, Kim Jong Il, and Kim Jong Un. They wouldn't put their pictures on something designed to be cut up and thr...

Re: Gluten Free MRE options?
I have considered assembling some of my own MREs and as I walk down the isle at the supermarket I do try and look to see what could be some good contenders. I did google search gluten free MRE and read an article(https://www.glutenfreeliving.com/gluten-free-foods/diet/gluten-free-soldier-in-afghani...

Re: Why are some US Rations almost never seen?
Re UGRs, most UGRs are built to serve 50 people. Talking several boxes, and for UGR-A you're talking one frozen box and two non-frozen boxes. UGR-E serves 18 but are only produced during wartime if there is a need. Would say the only whole UGR one might have any reasonable chance of getting would be...

Re: Entree quality
There are a number of things to consider, some of which have been already mentioned. Yes, the USA sends people all over, into all sorts of climates, and the packaged operational rations (POR) (MRE/MCW/LRRP/FSR/MORE) reflect that. And many of the foods are fairly bland so the largest number of people...
