Re: 2008 Cheese and Veggie Omelet MRE

How very kind of you, good sir. I'm new here, but I intend to participate often with reviews and observations.

Re: 2008 Cheese and Veggie Omelet MRE

I don't think we have to worry about it in the future. 2008 was the last year they've offered an egg/omelet item. Mine might have been the last one on earth, for all I know. I look forward to trying a maple sausage one (2013 Menu 17) or a sausage and gravy (2013 Menu 4) because those are the only tw...

Re: 2008 Cheese and Veggie Omelet MRE

The powdered "eggs" we got in 'Nam came (IIRC) in giant tins and became a scrambled mess that tasted like tin. They had a distinct aftertaste to boot - something vaguely mossy. Ditto the powdered milk, the canned bacon, and the issued bread. When our chow hall could get local bread it was great, as ...

2008 Cheese and Veggie Omelet MRE

My daughter found an MRE at a yard sale and bought it for me. This was a Menu 4 from Feb 2008, so I moved it to the front of my "Use Next" list. I had it yesterday while fishing. (No photos because it's quite a trick to unpack and prepare one of these things in a kayak even without the complication ...

Re: French Ration still good?

The answer will come - for the rest of us - if we ever hear from TankerT again. Or not, LOL!

On a serious note: I'd be very wary of any canned item that has been frozen. Water expands when it freezes, and if a can seal has been broken, the food inside will definitely be compromised.

Re: Not exactly a poll, but.....

I ate C-rats/MCI as well as LRPs occasionally in 'Nam. I learned early that any C-rat labeled "pork" would be canned lard - a hockey puck of lard. Difficult to get down and then impossible to digest. The infamous Ham and Limas wasn't as bad as some folks said, but I only tried it once, so it was pre...

Cheese Tortellini TOTM

Had another TOTM while fishing the other day. This one featured the cheese tortellini entree, and the pack date was 3126. The pack contained the entree, French Vanilla Cappuccino, Raspberry applesauce, pretzel sticks, patriotic cookies, M&Ms, plus the usual FRH and accessory pack. These are supposed...

Re: BEANWICH BOMBERS

I realize there's a two-year lapse in this reply, but I'm new here. This is reminiscent of the classic British breakfast item "Beans on Toast." I make it often with regular kitchen supplies. One slice of buttered toast Warmed baked beans to generously cover the toast One fried egg Sprinkle of grated...

2013 TOTM Review

Yesterday I went fishing - half for the fishing and half to enjoy a TOTM meal. Fishing was okay; the beef stew TOTM was better. This was a 2013 issue TOTM meal I purchased at my local commissary (I'm a USAF retiree). The Training Meal's reduced contents included the entree, FRH, Crackers, Peanut But...
