New item ?

Well - how does it taste? I can't help notice the lengthy ingredients list. It even includes "Wheat Snack Bread Premix".

I swear, all the new items are just the old ones re-packaged into new stuff. "SSDS" aka same $&@t, different sauce".

Re: New mre item ?

I actually quite like the Wheat Snack Item, with PB & J...but they can't really call it bread simply based on its shape... They did try to mold it into some sort of bread slice shape configuration. I don't think it fooled anyone. LOL. Snack bread just has this weird flavor, texture & gnarly a...

New item ?

How do you know without opening it? :)

Ya, it's "different", but what I mean by that, it's bread. (Or at least more of a "generally recognized as bread -like substance (compared to "wheat snack bread" certainly!) LOL

New item ?

Open it up. I believe that is the shelf stable bread that has been "new" for about 25 years now. (Not to be confused with the more or less execrable "wheat snack bread") I saw the shelf stable bread one time on active duty. Supplied in the same brown packet that accessory packets once were, as we al...

MRE Cracker perforations

There is a school of thought that says emergency or "survival food" should be edible, but just barely. The idea being that if something tastes good it will get eaten, but it won't be there in an emergency. I think there is some truth to that. I've a stockpile of "Wheat Snack Bread", which I dislike ...

Increase file attachment size

Later iPhone software update has the ability to adjust the file size or resolution when posting images that comes in handy. Before that, the only way I could manage it was emailing images to myself and then reducing the files size. Awkward, but it works.

MRE Cracker perforations

Definitely just decorative or for display purposes only. As a dedicated Saltine enthusiast, I always liked the earliest versions based on the C-Rat style. A bit better color and flavor. Later iterations, they aren't much different than cardboard. I thought those orange Cheese-It style crackers were ...

"Sock Rations"

Wilson's Meat Bar - now there's a blast from the past. Colin Fletcher, considered to be the "father" of backpacking, was a big fan of these. He hiked the length of California in the 1950s subsisting largely on these, and mashed potatoes & "gravy" made with dehydrated soups. Maybe it tasted better th...

Ration Matchbook

It's possible they were never included in rations, but they were obviously part of some other government procurement contract. Unfortunately people who would know i.e. "Oh, I remember those! They were part of a Civil Defense kit we were issued" are getting long in the tooth if they are still around....
