Re: Stupid postal regulations

Do NOT use duct tape. Tape needs to be clear for "security reasons" I am told. The customs form you will need is the bigger white one 2976-A available in the cubby holes usually, for Express Mail you will need the express mail label also. Fill out the customs form completely before you get to the P...

new review: Adventure Medical Kits "Survival Medic"

AMK has a brand new kit, the "Survival Medic" , which has all the key items of the "SOL Scout", at a significantly better price point : $15 list, $13 at Amazon, $11 at REI (possibly just for their M-Day weekend sale?), as low as $10 elsewhere. Just the Heatsheet and Spark Lite are worth about $13, s...

Re: New Maple Apple Flavored Oatmeal

Thanks for the (as usual!) great review, Treesuit. :) In particular, thanks for experimenting with cold vs hot. :) How much fiber is in it? It took me a few seconds to realize these aren't dry, which seems odd. I would guess that a powdered version would make more sense, storage wise. Does anyone kn...

Re: Stupid postal regulations

Update: I picked up each of the medium and large flat rate boxes, plus the "express mail" box. I just tried packing stuff in the large flat rate box, and I can get all the "core" items in, but not all the freeze dried. :( I am very impressed at how compact the AlpineAire 14-day no frills packages ar...

Re: Stupid postal regulations

"camping supplies" is good to go. I always use USPS Priority Mail International you can use the flat rate box if it is heavy and save some $$. I have had not do good luck with their less expensive options... If you mark the package as "food" then it could trigger a customs search. Thanks cavguy! :)...

Re: Stupid postal regulations

Adrian and I have been discussing a ration+ swap for a few months now, and I'm almost ready to send it. This will be my first ever swap! :) And my first overseas shipment since 9/11. First, I want to pick the group's brains about the different sending options (reliability, speed, cost), and what sor...

Re: Not technically "ready-to-eat," but.....

Boy oh boy was I off!  Actually the coleman let's eat outside entrees are $4.99 at the Walmart here in Ware, Massachusetts. I'm still not sure I'd wanna try them but the worms and dirt look ok, lol! Cool! Ok, no more excuses! Please buy one, try it, and post a review. :) Ideally, one ...

Re: Not technically "ready-to-eat," but.....

Has anyone tried the Coleman "Let's Eat Outside" entrees? I've seen them at Walmart but have not yet tried them. A few things seem to make them way different than "normal" camping food. The pouches don't seem particularly sturdy or even well made, the storage life is not very long from what I've se...

Re: review: AlpineAire Foods "14-Day Portable Food Pantry"

Great reviews! Just so you know, that Tamale Pie you made is, AFAIK, the correct consistency. My wife, who is a Portagee, makes the same thing, thick! Not supposed to be soupy! Thanks dirtbag , to both you and your wife! :) I had just assumed that I did it incorrectly. I'm really "talented" in that...
