Re: How does military deal with old rations/food stock

I think tossing the rations makes sense to the bean counters but it is wasteful. Why don't they let the rations "fall off a truck or "get pilfered at the dump" without sending G-men out to harass someone over near-date rations? I say that there should be no liability on the part of the government fo...

How does military deal with old rations/food stock

Hi! I was thinking that the US military could give nearly-outdated food and rations to its troops if the government shuts down so as to sustain family members and those living off-base. What does the military do with food stocks (MRE's, UGR, #10 cans of food, packets) when their expiration date nears?

Lemon Tea and Cider out?

I read the story on Combat Feeding that said Lemon Tea packs were among the items discarded. Word has it that the cider packs have limited warfighter acceptance. Will they be eliminated by DLA? Just make the tea without lemon and with sugar; don't dust some tea over fake lemonade and tell me it's re...

Re: Age of MCI

Somehow I'd be leery of fruit that' s too far past its pack date. I bought some cans of fruit in the pop-tops. They were only good for six months. They came from Big Lots. The cans I get from Wal-Mart are good for a year. There is the possibility that they're lying to us to get us to keep purchasing...

I like the Purel gel or its generics. It burns for quite a while. I also read of a poor man's stove with two cans (one smaller than the other) with holes made with a beer can opener (old school beer pre-lift tab) and a blob of steel wool to hold a solvent.

How often I eat MRE

I eat MRE's quite infrequently given they cost 7.00 a pop average (Grand Slams at Denny's are 2.00 at night nowadays from 10PM until 3AM or so) They sometimes lack roughage and not all of them have menu items that I like. But when they do..... I want to get hold of some cold weather rations to take ...

Ontech self-heating beverages

Hello I went to Wal-Mart one week and they had a stackbase of these items. I don't know that being near Robins AFB had anything to do with it but I went the next week and all they had were register endcaps of soup. I like the concept and think that sporting goods stores, if nobody else, might consid...

MRE Milkshakes; sodium content

Hello
My dad loves milkshakes such as Boost. But he has to be on a low salt diet. I wonder how much sodium the milkshake packet has. I ate all I had grrrr.
Thanks

Sources for shake mix like in MRE

Hello I have an elderly parent who needs to gain weight. I saw a picture on the net of an Army doc feeding a Pakistani child an MRE milkshake. Does anyone have a source for any powders that act similar to this? I know the GNC stores have weight-gain shakes but they are rather costly and don't taste ...
