Hi GigaBuist, Welcome to the A-List! I eat an MRE about every three or four weeks, as a treat. I also snack on individual items in between. Mostly though, I love MRE's because they remind of my youth, when I was in ROTC (eleven years ago). I always have two extra cases on hand other than the current...

French Individual Reheatable Combat Ration
Hi gang, Is anyone a pro on French rations? I have a French ration that is stamped "Best Before 23 June 1998." Most of the items inside are dated 1998 or 1999. If it was an MRE, it would be borderline on the dating. Even so, everything is in great condition (no leaks or bulging), and the food tins l...

A couple of you have already asked for my wife's Hungarian Goulash recipe, so I will post it here for all to partake in! I does require a crock pot, and I'm sure that you'll find the finished result to be deliciously similar to the Pork w/ Rice in BBQ Sauce MRE. It was and still is my favorite MRE, ...

Ranger Cookie
I learned this one from some prior service guys when I was in ROTC. It's called a "Ranger Cookie." Camping is the best venue for this particular recipe, as you'll see below. Required items: 1 cocoa beverage powder packet 1 used cardboard box from an entree or side dish 1 packet sugar 1 packet creame...

Along those same lines, Kman, I have found that the contents of B-1, B-2, and B-3 unit cans are still perfectly edible. The caveat being that whatever the crackers share the can with (whether it is cocoa beverage powder or candy disks), they will invariably taste just like their co-habitant. By the ...

It is unfortunate that the lemon poppy seed pound cake does not pass muster. From everything I have read about the Vietnam War, the C Ration pound cake cans were a highly sought-after item and were worth their weight in gold. I have 3 cans of C Ration pound cake, and I am hesitant to open any of the...

Now that I am a registered user of this website, I am able to provide overwhelming and unmitigated proof to my wife that I am not the only person on the face of the Earth who is completely enamored of MRE's, C Rations, and European ration packs. I look forward to many-a-posting concerning all manner...
