OK, it´s about 15 years since my last MRE heater. In the 80ies there were definitely some heaters with NaOH and as kids we have built such things ourselves. Time is running *hmpf* Have to be careful that I don´t start to sound like my own grandpa. The Mg-reaction ist basically the same priciple, may...

The content of the MRE-heater is based mainly on sodium hydroxide. This substance reacts exotherm with water and produces some hydrogen and the solution. This substance was used in toilet cleaners but it is banned from that purpose due to environment problems since the 1980ies (as I remember it from...

It´s again about oil ... like in WWII. The germans didn´t intend to use Georgien as "Lebensraum" - even for "the Fuhrer" a little bit far away ;) But they wanted to extend their oil-supply which was totally dependent on the romanian sources (which quality was in no way comparable to the US sources)....

You are right - I used the wrong expression These official contacts through the DSF were officially supported. These were organized meetings with a "political intelligence officer" (no idea of the correct translation for the german word "stasi-Offizier") near every three people. I thought of persona...

But the russian soldiers in the GDR most of the ...

Wish I could join :) But from Berlin it´s the opposite part of Germany, maybe next year. We have our annual "Deutsch-Amerikanisches-Volksfest" these days here but the name is only a reminiscence to old days. Now there aren´t any americans any more. More or less it´s a genuine german volksfest now. I ...

German equivalent to the little Tabasco-bottle

nah... not really, but it would be a nice accessory for the EPAs:

A little can of salt (1,5" high, 08" diameter)

These are sold together with a bigger can of spicy salt.
To have these with your EPAs is recommended to fire it up a bit.
