I had one of those, or plenty of them when I was in the Marines.
They were pretty dry or flaky back then, so we'd just 'chop' them up beforehand, so the sauce would get in between, etc.

I remember these 'frankfurters' when I was in the Marines, and available in the brown mre's. The 'catsup', was a powder, where you had to mix water within, to make a paste and remember it was available in the pork patty mre. (I served from 86 - 90) These were not from the 'Nam... Treesuit, I was with the Flagstaff Hotshots, we mostly fought fires in the AZ desert, Utah, California and Nevada. It was fun also to work with those prison crews! I remember on one ridge, some CA crew was passing by and one guy gave me a LRRP ration - it was the spagetti and meatballs ration. I add...

I was on a Hot-Shot crew in the Forest Service and we got to eat all these 'C-Rats'! (1983) I remember on one fire, I had the spagetti and I got very sick on it and couldn't eat much after that. For that fire, I really only ate the fruit - peaches, etc., "John Wayne bars", pound and fruit cakes. Tha...

Those people in the fire camps sure ate well!!! I remember we really didn't get any 'hot' meals and if they did, they came cold in vat-cans from a helicopter. Usually they didn't have enough also, but it sure was welcomed and a morale booster. You get tired of c-rats, but when your hungry, you eat a...

Yeah Treesuit, I bet there will be a lot of rations being eaten this fire season! Pretty dry out there and lots of fires right now across the west. I had the chance to eat a LRRP ration that a California hotshot gave me one time at a fire. It was spagetti and came in like a cloth OD bag. The best th...

Treesuit,
I remember we are all trying to be 'tactical' and here comes the moon-pie truck! Sometimes they sold that gut whiskey too.
