Re: Power out review

The technology is the same as a Heater Meal, there are a few companies producing self-heating meals, the ones for the retail market use the salt-water activated heaters. The heaters themselves are often coming from HeaterMeals (as do the ones that are used in MREs.) Though, that being said, it shoul...

Re: Bridgford's other offerings

http://www.bridgford.com/foodservice/index.asp Found this interesting, apparently besides the sandwich found in FSRs, they also make a whole slew of 1 year shelf stable products that are actually recognizable food. Throw that in a vaccum sealed bag with a bag of chips, drink powered base, condiment...

Re: Anyone tried dried sliced beef?

Rinse it first in hot water to wash out some of the salt and then use it in your favorite SOS recipe (aka creamed chiped beef), serve on a shingle (toast)

Re: Lard Meat ...i hope...

So its the company name not type of lard meat that's good to know! It is indeed the name of the company, you can find their web site at http://www.feines-aus-pommern.de/ Pomerania is a region in eastern Germany (previously part of the eastern sector of post WWII Germany, i.e. East Germany) near the...

Would you happen to have any pre-1960 FPICs? (that's Food Packet, Individual, Combat)

I believe that is the idea. Thus the ergonomic form factor of the bag itself.

Re: What companies co-manufacture MREs for weight loss progr

All meat, poultry, and egg products should have a EST code, though the fresh meat packaging that you find in a supermarket usually won't have it on the packaging (it is on the cryovac packaging that the store received the meat in.) This is USDA/FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) info. You can...

Wornick used to produce some of the Nutrasystem retort products before they went Chap 11, don't know if they're still contracted for production. I know that Truitt Bros. Inc. is currently also doing some of the Nutrisystem retorts. You can track down the specific vendor for the various products (ret...

Re: BEANWICH BOMBERS

You'll probably find that most of the recipes include adding Tobasco sauce. That's 'cause it is published by the McIlhenny Company, who owns the Tobasco brand name. You can get a copy directly from McIlhenny at their web store, http://countrystore.tabasco.com/prodinfo.asp?number=04845 . It is...

Re: Irene Meal

I did this several years ago. A Hormel Compleats will not fit into a FRH bag that is designed for MREs, but the FRH can indeed be used to heat it (or a similar trayed retort entree.) Rather than putting the tray/bowl into the FRH bag, invert the tray (ala Heater Meals instructions) and place it on t...
