Re: MRE-like Retort Pouches in Your Local Grocery Store
I was in the store today buying 2 more of these for my extended shelf-life trial, and found one still on the shelf that had a Nov 2016 use buy date. Unlike the other shoppers, finding something expired was right up my alley, so I bought it and ate it for lunch. Southwest style chicken. 270 calories...

Re: College Ideas
Check out the storage section of your local Home Depot/Lowes. They have all sorts and sizes of containers that will let you store stuff. That's Step 1. Step 2: Place MRES in purchased storage container Step 3: Place storage container in closet, under bed, or other dark, out of the way place Step 4:...

Re: SPAM
Has anyone tried the Teriyaki, Chorizo, or Portuguese Sausage flavors. Those look interesting, but they aren't on store shelves locally. They sell the teriyaki and chorizo here in New Jersey. I haven't tried the chorizo (but I think I'm adding it to the shopping cart this weekend). The teriyaki was...

Re: Early Christmas Brought To Me By Steve1989
Wait are you the STEVE1989 the legend MRE reviewer ?! :o He may be too modest to respond, but yes he is. The one and only. Heck, last week a coworker sent me an e-mail with a link to one of Steve1989's reviews (1943 rations). He knew I was into rations, and it just happened to pop up in his faceboo...

Re: US MRE 2014 Menu# 22 Asian Style Beef Strips With Vegetables
Thanks for the review. That wheat snack bread with peanut butter and apple jelly looks delicious. I don't remember posting this, but coincidentally I bought a Menu 22 Asian Beef strips yesterday along with 3 other MREs. As soon as I got home I tore open three of them like a kid at Christmas, hoping...

Re: Beverage base power + carbonated water? Awful
Mixed it with some carbonated water, with my favorite drink mix and low and behold....I destroyed it entirely! Don't even try it, tastes awful, feels awful. Imagine drinking a bubbly gatorade, that burns as it goes down. Not great especially when you are looking to re-hydrate yourself. Stick with n...

Found a New Source
Mods, please move if this should be posted elsewhere. In my travels for work I literally lucked into a new place to buy MREs, and I picked up a few. Priority One Surplus in Hamburg PA. Right off of routes 78 and 22, west of Allentown. They had a ton of MREs, both genuine, and Sopacko look alikes. Th...

Re: FRH liquid?
I guess the intent is to ask what liquids we've used in an FRH, but I'll extend this a bit.
I've heated them in a panini maker, next to an electric space heater, in a coffee pot full of hot water, and with a propane torch.
I'm sure some of you have better methods than this.

Re: Peanut Butter vs Cheese Spread
I have to preface this by noting, as I've done in other posts, that in terms of edible delivery of calories, both are fine - the peanut butter is far better than the "cheese". I've had both, and I would eat either, but the peanut butter lasts longer, and tastes like real peanut butter. But then I've...

Re: I'm the proud owner
I tried them in the 1996 MRE I mentioned earlier in the thread. I only ate one of the four "fingers" - no adverse effects, and it tasted pretty good - not much different than a cheap hot dog of more recent vintage.
