Re: (Unknown Year) Food Packet, Long Range Patrol Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Wow, I can't believe I'm the only one that noticed the gubbmint shortsheeting everyone on the coffee ration from 2.5 to 2.2 grams. That stuff was ground fine and strong. Not the tastiest stuff in the world by any means, but it WOULD wake a feller up. And that's what it's for. The "Tasters Choice" an...

Re: Chow Hall details (Menus/planning)?

I pulled KP a couple times in basic, it was 24 hour duty and pretty much kicked my ass as I recall. Mess hall duty is kind of a thankless job and it is an important one. Overall they did a pretty good job considering what they had to work with and the conditions. Still we would often drive down to M...

Re: Questions regarding my grandpa's WWII stuff

Look up "shadow box", a glass encased display usually includes a tricorner folded American flag, medals, photos etc. Suitable for display in an honored location, fireplace, breakfront, etc.

Re: Alpine Aire Beef and Potatoes

Thanks for the review. AlpineAire used to have some excellent menus and products. All of the manufacturers offer reasonable fare but it is damnably expensive for the caloric food value. This menu while I haven't tried, could be made palatable but would require extensive cooking. What's the point? Th...

Chili Mac

Pretty sure there is an actual Chilimac entree, I usually install a Cheese Spread packet to make it more palatable. Today I was hungry for a snack and decided to experiment. The Chili w/ Beans "should" be an easy meal to make tasty I should think, sadly this is not the case, imo. It tastes as if som...

Re: Manufacturer for accessory pack gum?

No offense, but why would you want to? Years ago it was a little box of Chiclets. This issue tends to be so bad it falls apart after just a few seconds. It may even be sugarless? Nothing's too good for our boys, right?

Re: 1996 DOM 1997 INSP MRE #10 cans

Hm, guys the tray packs were around before '97 all of that stuff as far as I know was procurable at the unit level and used for field exercises and deployments, at least in the Army. They always tried to provide at least one meal that was field kitchen produced, and issue two (2) rations. The mess h...

Re: The Immortal Beef Stew

Hey everybody New guy - just wanted to chime in with my experience. I was around for the earliest issue MRE basically - had consumed the "C-Rats" as a civilian, but by the time I entered active duty in 1988 the C's were long gone, at least for the units I was in. I tried them all. As the saying goes...
