I live in Japan now, and I have sold a few boxes of german rations to some military buffs here. They have tasting parties here, and German ones are the most popular ones, tastewise. If you can get new ones, I'm sure you wont be disappointed by the taste. Tins of potted meat go well with the crackers...

I remember seeing mres stacked on the shelves (or my eyes are bad) on the second season of '24'. In the episode where Jack Bauer's daughter meets the guy with the bomb shelter. I too remember them in panic room, as I recall they were the civilian types, not the official military ones.

I appreciate the tip on opening the entree pouch lengthwise instead of from the top, for some reason this never occured to me and it would make it a lot easier to eat.

Whats the longest amount of time you guys have eaten mres for? And what about the health risks of doing so?

I just got a case each of a and b of the 2004 (expire in 2007) mres, which ones are the best to hold on to and eat and which ones should I give away... ?
My friends want to sample them, but I want to keep the best ones for me...

Thanks.. how many years are those mres good for? The canned meats looked ok at about 4 years old, but something bad happened to the fruit desert. A german friend of mine said the bread lasts for years.

Does anyone have a good source of German mres? I know a guy who is in the german military who sent me some , but they were all about 3-4 years old and I'm looking for some newer ones.
