Sorry miss read your post you are right they when order from the producer they issue a new number if it is a new item, if it already has a number thats the one they use.

Everything is ordered by NSN, in fact all you need is an NSN to get what you want I was in a Armoured unit but everybody in my unit had Airborne knives because we ordered them with the right NSN, [NSN ????-21-???-???? _ Knife _ qty 50] it was that simple. Take pack of crystalized honey soak in hot water & it returns to liquid form. thats what we used to do with the tubes that came in the IRPs & early IMPs. But alas no more canteen cups or cookers for the troops so thats probably the honey problem crystalized & no way to reconstite it.

Techcnically all emergency Rations are D-Rations.

The Army says 3 years then ignore that. While posted with 4CMBG in West Germany in 1980 we were issued US MCIs dated 1971 & 1972 and I survived. Recently I have eaten 1999 dated IMPs and 2000 dated UK 24 hr GP packs and no ill effects. As stated previously storage is the key at 68 degrees F 10 year ...

Hi I'm Cal & am new to this forum but I thought I could clear up some question posed in this thread. It says Hexamine because that is what it is, ESBIT is just a brand name. The green tube pictured is US hexamine for the old WW 2 to Vietnam issue wing stoves, they contain 6 hexi pellets and can also...
