Excelsior.
Thanks for not taking my lame attempt at humor too seriously... (I've killed more threads than I can count on here and should probably regress to 'lurker' status for the time being...).

Re: Preparing for and Surviving Natural Disasters

"...But I guess part of the lesson: Bring enough water though I had more than was needed, money, pogey bait , flashlights, batteries..." I'm embarrassed that I had to look the above up (from the "Urban Dictionary"): 1. pogey bait The Marines in China before WW II were issued candy (Baby Ruths, Toot...

Re: Preparing for and Surviving Natural Disasters

"...Can't imagine them even threatening to switch your power off on purpose! (would be 'contentious' here also)...." Yeah, I get the reasoning  ...just can't imagine it happening 'here' where population densities are a fraction of the Queens burough and where the power companies/politicians r...

Re: Preparing for and Surviving Natural Disasters

Update: Large amount of flooding on the Rockaway Peninsula. Spilled over the boardwalk onto the street at high speed. Streets under deluge of water and some damage to homes. Boardwalk damaged in some places. Queens and Brooklyn have many trees down and lots of forest debris near parks. The brunt of...

Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014

Thanks, cavguy. I have no idea how the military keeps the 'active' scenario straight that you describe...vs any basic sustenance rules somehow differing for the 'reservist' either active or on drill. One would think that if a MRE is indeed required in any given situation that it is simply provided. ...

Re: MREs Inspection Date 05/2014

Most of the investigations from what I have heard from guys still in service seem to focus on finding Soldiers involved in selling multiple cases on Ebay/Craigslist. They are looking for the soldier who is selling ALOT not the petty one or two cases a reserve soldier had to pay for drill . I have n...

Re: Trans-Fat In Military Rations

Whatever the story turns out to be...there is absolutely no reason that the story isn't easily told or even researched. There are no secrets needing to be covered up here. The government and the public should scrutinize all parties applying for these type of contracts right up to the point of denyin...

Re: Better taste better than Moms!

While the current demand for both categories of MREs is possibly at a cyclical low...I would advise any 'non' collector or those researching MREs as a viable emergency food source to possibly expect a value approaching these prices in the future. There are a number of 'good deals' out there at the p...

Re: First Strike Ration Availability

So if 'field stripping' of these meals (no matter in what branch of the service that our brave men and women serve or on what mission they may possibly be deployed) is 100% accepted by military leadership...and a glaring lack of proper nutrition is the problem (for what decades now despite literally...

Re: First Strike Ration Availability

Seeing that these rations were apparently the solution to a glaring need well over 5 years ago that was obviously not defined to any one geographical area...I hope that this is not true for the sake of those in the field both past and present.
