Updated British Hexamine Stove Info

Filed under: News — kman @ 8:42 am

Simon from the UK emailed me that the picture of the hexamine stove on my British Rations page was not the correct picture - it was a picure of a European esbit stove. He sent me pictures of the correct stove and I posted them (and an updated description) on the webpage.

  1. I cant wait till’ I get my British rations in the mail! Damn, I bought them december 18th and 20th, I dont know why the shipping is taking so long, I think it was the holidays, plus the dude lived in England. So yeah I guess shipping time makes sense.

Hey Kman, have you tried any British rations yet?

I had an idea, there could be a taste test section for each type of Mre, IMP, Russian, French, German, and Austrailian rations.

I know getting all that information wont happen overnight, but I know I could give you some info on some of the rations that I get in the mail.

I could give a detailed taste test on every food in the British rations, like everything from the main Entree to the biscuts and tea. :)

Man one time I saw one of those German 24 hour rations on Ebay, started at $3.00, ended at $33.50.

I just wish there were better deals on all these rations. We need to leave Iraq so we can get tons of surplus again… :( Hehehe.

  2. Hey Steve. No, I haven’t actually tried the British rations yet - but I’ll probably dig into them soon. I’m trying to figure out what’s up with the menus - none of the boxes are marked on the outside with which menu is inside - and the one I did open didn’t match any of the menus listed on the outside of the box.

As for receiving your British rations, I’d hope they get there pretty soon. I picked up a British Patrol ration late last year from a guy in the UK and it arrived surprisingly quick - maybe 10 days. I hope your stuff doesn’t get hung up in Customs. Another buddy of mine in Canada has been telling me about new US FDA import restrictions on food coming into the US. Sometimes it seems like you can get stuff through but if they stop your package to examine it and discover that it’s food and does not have the appropriate documentation attached, they’ll return it at the sender’s expense.

I like the idea of adding a taste test section to each ration site. The only thing holding me back from really being able to do it right is access to some of the harder-to-find rations like the French, German, Russian, etc. rations. I do have two brand-new cases of MREs (2004 menus) that I plan on going through - I’ll be posting the pictures and reviews of it all over the next couple of months.

And of course, I alwasy welcome reviews and pictures from anyone who wants to send them in.

  3. Hey dude, if I find some French or German rations, and maybe Russian.. well anyways if I find any good deals on those on Ebay, I’ll buy em, and go camping and write down how everyhting tastes.

Man those Russian rations scare the hell outta me… did you see the entree man? It was like marbled to all hell with fat.

Now what I’d just LOVE to try are some old ass WW2 and Vietnam rations, but eating them will probably kill you so I’m not going to eat em.

I just wish there was a company that made camping food that was identical to the MREs and IMPs etc.

I know Sorpacko (Sorry I’m not sure if thats spelled correctly) makes MRE’s closest to the real thing, but still I want some easy to get French and German rations.

Its like - you would have a better chance sending fan mail to Bob Dylan and actually getting a letter back from him then you would getting some French rations. I’m sure those things go for about $50 each.. easily, unless you had some connections with a Fench soldier or somethin’.

I work and go to school. I only make $20.00 a day so I wanna let everyone know that I cant (and wont) buy ANY ration for over $50, I just cant afford buying food for that much.

I spent $70 (Including shipping from Canada to Florida) for my case of 2004 IMP’s… I consider that a damn good deal.

If anyone can get a case of MRE’s for $45 these days thats even considered a deal.

I remember when I was 5, I used to love GIJoes (Cartoons, action figures, etc. etc.) and I went to a Army & Navy store.

They had 2 cases of MRE’s and my dad bought me a case.

I loved em, and that case was only $25, no joke.

We went back the next week and the case was gone. :(

Oooo! I’m rambling, sorry! I’ll stop now while I can!

  4. Your stove comments are correct. The Estbit is german and fits an issue canteen cup better than the Brit stove even though they ar ein the rations cases. I’ve been in the US Army for 27 yrs and have had from Crats, LURRPS,all types of MREs, Brit and French. EVERYTHING TASTES GOOD WHEN YOUR HUNGRY!!! Heading off to Iraq for the 3d time this month!

  5. I know you said that you’d use the line “Everything tastes good when you hungry” and I cracked up when I saw it heading your MRE info site. I’ll be seeing the 2005 MREs soon. I send you some info.
